Paediatric Orthopaedic Home Visits in Madrid
We treat injuries, fractures, and orthopaedic conditions in children without the need to leave home, with expert and compassionate care.
Paediatric orthopaedics is the specialty dedicated to the developing musculoskeletal system in children and adolescents. It addresses fractures (which differ due to growth plates and bone elasticity), soft tissue injuries, and congenital or acquired deformities (such as hip dysplasia, clubfoot, or scoliosis).
Its main objective is to ensure healthy growth and development, minimising future complications through a comprehensive approach that includes treatment, prevention, rehabilitation, and follow-up tailored to each stage of childhood.
Fractures and minor injuries
Typical symptoms include sudden, intense pain following trauma, swelling, bruising, and difficulty or inability to move the affected limb.
Dislocations and sprains
They cause acute pain, rapid swelling, and limited range of movement. In the case of dislocations, there is often a visible deformity of the joint.
Growing pains and gait abnormalities
Growing pains are typically nocturnal and affect both legs, and are very common between the ages of 3 and 12 years.
Gait abnormalities (such as limping or walking on tiptoes) may be related to these pains, differences in leg length (limb length discrepancy), or joint problems that require medical assessment.
Spinal deformities
In their early stages, they are usually painless, but can be identified by observing asymmetries in the height of the shoulders, hips, or shoulder blades.
Flat feet / Foot and knee alignment issues
When pronounced, these can lead to frequent tripping, pain, fatigue when walking, or uneven wear of footwear.
Follow-up after an injury or surgery
Home-based monitoring to assess wound healing, remove casts, dressings, or stitches, and ensure the child regains mobility properly, helping to prevent long-term complications.
Paediatric Orthopaedics
Dr Teresa Rodríguez del Real developed an interest in paediatric orthopaedics during her medical studies and has focused her entire training on this field. In 2013, she completed a rotation in paediatric orthopaedics at the University Hospital of Coventry & Warwickshire (UK) with Mr Cooke. During her residency, she further expanded her expertise at Niño Jesús Children’s Hospital (Madrid) and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (London) under the supervision of Prof D. Eastwood.
In 2022, as a specialist, she completed a visiting fellowship in osteogenesis imperfecta at Sheffield Children’s Hospital (UK) with Mr Fernandes, Mr Nicolau, and Mr Giles. Since 2020, she has been working as a paediatric orthopaedic specialist at Getafe University Hospital and Niño Jesús Children’s Hospital.
