Paediatric Allergy Home Visits in Madrid

Diagnosis and treatment of allergies in babies, children, and adolescents from the comfort of your home.

What is paediatric allergy?

Paediatric allergy is the medical specialty focused on the identification and treatment of allergic and immunological conditions in children and adolescents, ranging from food and respiratory allergies to associated atopic skin disorders. Our home-based service allows for a close assessment and a treatment plan tailored to the child’s family environment.

Closely linked to paediatric respiratory medicine, it evaluates immune system reactions affecting the airways, such as allergic rhinitis, environmental sensitivities, and respiratory allergies. It also includes food allergies, skin allergies, and drug reactions.

This multidisciplinary approach enables a more effective management of paediatric respiratory and allergic conditions.

Triggered specifically by the inhalation of allergens (such as pollen, dust mites, or pet dander). Children may experience episodes of coughing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and wheezing when exposed to the triggering allergen.

The immune system overreacts to proteins in certain foods (commonly milk, eggs, fish, or nuts). Symptoms may include hives (urticaria), swelling of the lips or face, vomiting, diarrhoea, and, in severe cases, breathing difficulties or anaphylaxis.

Caused by direct contact with an allergen or by an underlying allergic predisposition (atopic dermatitis). It is characterised by redness, very dry skin, scaling, and intense itching, leading to eczema—commonly seen on the cheeks in infants or in the folds of the elbows and knees in older children.

Caused by an allergic reaction to insect venom, most commonly from bees and wasps. Symptoms may include widespread urticaria (hives), swelling beyond the site of the sting, difficulty breathing, dizziness, or anaphylaxis, which is a medical emergency.

Caused by airborne environmental allergens. Typical symptoms include repeated sneezing, clear, watery nasal discharge, nasal congestion, as well as itching, redness, and watery eyes.

Usually occurs shortly after taking a medication, presenting with skin rashes, generalised itching, facial swelling, or, in more severe cases, breathing difficulties.

Which allergic conditions can be managed at home?

Our paediatric allergy home service is focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of the most common allergic conditions in childhood, providing personalised care in the child’s usual environment.

We manage allergic asthma, including clinical assessment, identification of potential triggers, and the development of individualised control plans, as well as family education on the correct use of inhalers and rescue medication.

We also assess food allergies, through a detailed clinical history, evaluation of previous reactions, and clear guidance on avoidance and management of accidental exposures.

The service includes the management of allergic or atopic dermatitis, with tailored skin care recommendations and flare prevention strategies, as well as the evaluation of insect sting allergies, distinguishing between local and systemic reactions and establishing preventive measures.

In addition, we diagnose and treat allergic rhinitis and rhinoconjunctivitis, which are very common in children, providing advice on environmental control and pharmacological treatment. We also assess suspected drug allergies, helping to identify the causative medications and establish safe alternatives for the future.
