Paediatric Endocrinology Home Visits in Madrid

Specialist care for hormonal disorders, growth, and paediatric metabolism from the comfort of your home.

What is paediatric endocrinology?

Paediatric endocrinology is the medical specialty focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of conditions related to the hormonal system in babies, children, and adolescents.

Hormones regulate essential body functions such as growth, metabolism, puberty, and glucose balance. When these processes are disrupted, conditions may arise such as short stature, early or delayed puberty, thyroid disorders, or diabetes.

Early diagnosis and appropriate follow-up allow these conditions to be identified in time and enable the development of a personalised treatment plan tailored to each child’s age, development, and family environment.

In cases of short stature, the causes of growth significantly below the average for age and sex are investigated. These may include growth hormone (GH) deficiency, genetic syndromes, or idiopathic familial short stature.

The opposite scenario can also be assessed—excessive growth, which may be associated with genetic conditions, excess GH (gigantism), or other endocrine disorders.

Such as congenital or acquired hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, or thyroid nodules.

Differential diagnosis between primary (exogenous) obesity and secondary causes (endocrine or genetic).

Management of obesity-related comorbidities, such as dyslipidaemia (high cholesterol), hypertension, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and Type 2 diabetes mellitus (increasingly common in adolescents).

Assessment of the child’s physical and hormonal development.

Ongoing medical supervision for patients with Type 1 diabetes

  • Hypothalamic–pituitary axis disorders: Conditions affecting the production of multiple hormones, such as panhypopituitarism.
  • Disorders of sex development (DSD): Congenital conditions resulting in atypical development of chromosomes, gonads, or sexual anatomy.
  • Adrenal gland disorders:
    • Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH): A group of genetic conditions affecting cortisol production and often aldosterone.
    • Adrenal insufficiency: Cortisol deficiency, which can be potentially life-threatening (e.g. Addison’s disease or secondary causes).
    • Cushing’s syndrome: Excess cortisol production.
  • Mineral metabolism disorders: Including abnormalities in calcium and phosphate metabolism, often related to parathyroid or vitamin D disorders (e.g. rickets).

What can a paediatric endocrinologist manage during a home visit?

At Equipo Médico Ordovás, our paediatric endocrinology home service provides assessment, diagnosis, and follow-up for a wide range of hormonal and metabolic conditions in children and adolescents.

These include the evaluation and monitoring of short stature, growth delay, and early or delayed puberty, as well as the management of thyroid disorders such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

We also offer comprehensive and ongoing support for Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, including advanced diabetes education and continuous adjustment of metabolic control.

In addition, the service addresses childhood obesity and associated metabolic disorders through detailed assessment and the development of personalised strategies, including tailored nutritional and physical activity plans.

Finally, we manage and follow up on less common endocrine conditions, such as adrenal disorders and pituitary gland disorders, ensuring a holistic and individualised approach to care.

Benefits of requesting a paediatric endocrinology home visit

Requesting a home consultation offers multiple benefits for both the child and their family:

  • Avoids unnecessary travel to hospital or clinic
  • Reduces stress by assessing the child in a familiar environment
  • Allows a closer evaluation of lifestyle and daily habits
  • Enables personalised follow-up
  • Improves communication with the family and treatment adherence

In addition, when needed, the team can coordinate care with other paediatric specialties.

Endocrine disorders in childhood affect not only growth and metabolism, but can also influence the child’s overall development. For this reason, our approach is based on:

  • Early diagnosis of hormonal disorders
  • Comprehensive assessment of child development
  • Personalised treatments tailored to each patient
  • Coordination with other paediatric specialties when required
  • Close, family-centred follow-up

Our goal is to improve the child’s health and quality of life through high-quality medical care, without the need for the family to travel.
