A pediatrician will perform a detailed visual assessment of your undressed baby under good natural light, examining the skin, mucous membranes, and eyes to evaluate the presence and severity of jaundice.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4599\" data-end=\"4663\">If jaundice is suspected, precise measurements may be performed:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4665\" data-end=\"5325\">\n<li data-start=\"4665\" data-end=\"4856\">\n<p data-start=\"4667\" data-end=\"4856\"><strong data-start=\"4667\" data-end=\"4699\">Total Serum Bilirubin (TSB):<\/strong><br data-start=\"4699\" data-end=\"4702\" \/>The most reliable method, measured from a small blood sample (usually from the heel), to quantify circulating bilirubin and guide treatment decisions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4858\" data-end=\"5325\">\n<p data-start=\"4860\" data-end=\"5325\"><strong data-start=\"4860\" data-end=\"4901\">Transcutaneous Bilirubin Measurement:<\/strong><br data-start=\"4901\" data-end=\"4904\" \/>Many hospitals use a non-invasive <strong data-start=\"4940\" data-end=\"4974\">transcutaneous bilirubin meter<\/strong>, which estimates bilirubin levels through the skin (typically on the forehead or chest). It emits light and measures absorption.
